Happy Friday! It’s been awhile since I’ve done a music playlist, and this particular one is very special. Today, my brother is getting married to his queen, and I’m gaining a sister. Both of them have gone through so much throughout their journey of life, and to reconnect after two decades from in elementary school, they were granted a new beginning to grow and learn, and realize how great they balance each other. A few months ago, they asked me to perform a poem for them, and I am incredibly nervous because I’m saying it during the ceremony…no pressure right? In all seriousness, I am so honored to share this moment with them, and for that, I have to celebrate their journey through music.
Many of these songs have either a story to them, or are just generally songs that they enjoy while being together. I’ll also add in a few songs that I dedicate to them.
1. Rock With You – Michael Jackson
Short story about this particular song; On their first date, they heard this blasting from a rooftop party when they were walking outside after dinner. From there, they danced on the sidewalk and both felt so carefree. Additionally, they danced to the song at a party, on the night my brother proposed.
2. The Truth – India.Arie
This song is a dedication to them because so much of the lyrics describes exactly how they feel about each other.
3. The Light – Common
This is one of the songs that will be played during the reception.
4. If Only You Knew – Patti LaBelle
This is one of the bride’s most dearest songs, and one that she will never forget as she walks down the aisle.
5. Love – Kirk Franklin
This is another one of my dedications. God is such an important part of their lives, and that they would not be as strong, committed, and deep in faith without him. A couple that prays together….well you know the rest.
6. Nobody’s Supposed To Be Here – Deborah Cox
Here’s another dedication. I feel like this would connect to the bride particularly because the odds of knowing that my brother would be the one she would fall in love is crazy. Both of them rarely knew each other as kids, and it’s amazing that with time and patience, God brought them together as entirely different versions of themselves. It’s just really beautiful.
7. Around The Way Girl – LL Cool J
This song is one of their favorites as well. Truly a classic.
8. Love U 4 Life – Jodeci
I had to sneak this one in because it’s one of my favorite love songs. I’m sure they love it too.
I hope you all enjoyed this love-filled playlist, and if you have a significant other, cherish the minutes, hours, and days that you have with them. Before I finish getting ready for this beautiful day, I wish Zachary and Isadora a beautiful lifetime filled with happiness, growth, triumphs, and faith. There is nothing that God cannot get you both through. I love you both.
